The September 1st First Fridays Artswalk will encompass more than a dozen art shows featuring over a dozen accomplished regional artists in Pittsfield’s bustling Upstreet Cultural District. Venues will reach as far south as the Berkshire Museum and as far North as Berkshire Medical Center. The September First Fridays Artswalk will kick –off with opening receptions and artists present throughout the “walk” from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, September 1st. There will be a free guided walking tour beginning at 5 pm on September 1st at the Intermodal Center at BRTA, 1 Columbus Ave.
The gallery at Hotel on North, 297 North Street, will feature paintings by Susan Merrill, August 24th through September 6th. An opening reception for “Respect for the Cow” will be held during First Fridays Artswalk on September 1st, 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
In this exhibit, Susan tries to communicate the dignity of cows from neighboring farms here in the Berkshires. She has focused on farm animals as subjects in her paintings for the past ten years. Her goal is both visual and to draw attention to our vanishing farm culture.
For the month of September, The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Avenue, will present “Illuminated Broadsides: Word & Image”, curated by Julio Granda. There will be a soft opening during First Fridays Artswalk on Friday, September 1st, 5 to 8 pm, with an opening reception on Friday, September 8th, 5 to 7 pm.
An “Illuminated Broadside” is a unique work that demands reading, not in a book, but on a wall. In this exhibition, at least 25 poets and artists have collaborated to create works of art incorporating a variety of printing methods – letter press/offset/silkscreen/inkjet – to achieve an unusual but beautiful marriage of word and image.
Pat Most will host a solo show as part of First Fridays Artswalk for one night only, Friday, September 1st, 5 to 8 pm at Downtown Pittsfield, Inc., 33 Dunham Mall.
The Kinderhook Group Real Estate, 137 North Street, will feature fine art photographer Lear Levin for the month of September. Lear will display a series of incredible Ballet Dance pictures in black & white and color. The dancers in the photos are mainly from The New York City Ballet with a few from American Ballet Theater and The Dance Company of Harlem. The sets, costumes, lighting and staging were all executed in Lear’s New York City home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with only the assistance of a makeup person. There will be a reception during First Fridays Artswalk.
New shows from local artists will also be displayed at the following locations as part of First Fridays Artswalk: RJ Stohr Diamonds & Fine Jewelry, the Brothership Building Window, Berkshire Medical Center, The Marketplace Café, Berkshire Paint and Sip, Steven Valenti’s Clothing for Men, and The Funky Phoenix.
First Fridays Artswalk is presented by Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. Most art exhibits are on display in participating venues throughout the month. Please check with venues for hours of operation.
